WHY? The Annual Winter Gala is O2A's largest and most attended fundraising event of the year. Our aim with this event is to raise awareness and build interest around what we do and to recognize, thank and reward our amazing donors and volunteers. Proceeds from the 2013 Winter Gala Annual Fundraising Event went directly to supporting O2A's international projects in 2014.
This year's gala was amazing event. We served appetizers, dinner, dessert and drinks and had a live and silent auction. Our guests learned about Orphans to Ambassadors and how they can change the lives of marginalized and orphaned children.

Did you know that more than 1.6 billion people live without electricity? Orphans to Ambassadors brings lights and energy to those that do not have access to electricity. We are very excited to host our first run to raise money in support of solar electricity for two orphanages in Uganda.
On May 4th 2013, Orphans to Ambassadors hosted ‘Run for Lights’ 5K run in Lincoln Park in West Seattle to raise funds for solar installation projects taking place in 2013.
The course takes you on a loop in the upper section of Lincoln park on a trail path through gorgeous woods and finishes with a loop along the boardwalk with breathtaking views of Puget Sound. This course is approximately 3 miles and does include a few short hills with a section of the run on a dirt trail. It is very scenic and walkers, runners, children and pets on leash are invited to participate.

December 2011 Holiday Gift-wrapping Fundraiser in Charlotte, NC (SouthPark Mall)
Charlotte, NC volunteers initiated an eight-day gift wrapping booth in one of Charlotte's busiest malls, raising almost $4,000! This fundraiser idea began with the 2010 holiday gift wrapping event in led by Jake Gentry and Suzanne Fossum in Washington state, where O2A raised around $10,000! We couldn't have done the Charlotte gift wrapping event without the planning, coordination, and long hours put in by volunteer Mercedes Camprubi-Soms. She recruited over thirty volunteers, manned the booth all eight days from open to close, and spearheaded this entire event. She continued fundraising after the gift-wrapping booth closed and went on to travel to the IWE project in May 2012, co-leading the project documentation and helping with the construction and travel logistics! Thanks for your hard work Mercedes!

Water Filter Demonstration in Charlotte, NC
Over four weekends at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte, we sold candles from Southern Candle Company in Wilkesboro and even got some people to sport our O2A t-shirts. We had face-painting as well (you can see the station on the left if you squint). The biggest draw was the solar-powered water filter we had running through a fish tank. The unusual sight encouraged many people to slow down to check it out and ask questions. The design is very simple and we hope to duplicate if we can recruit a tech-savvy volunteer!
Gift-Wrapping Kiosk in Tukwila, Wa
Over the holiday weekends this past December, O2A hosted six tables at South Center Mall in Tukwila, WA. It was our biggest and most successful fundraiser yet and got us to our 2010 goal of $20,000. The goal wasn't an arbitrary one - we had a full $20,000 match and we reached it!
Bumbershoot Music Festival, Seattle, WA
We held an information booth at the Northwest's largest music festival this summer, with over 200,000 people attending. It was a great way to get our name and information out there, plus free music!
Cooking for a Cause in April
Donors joined us for an O2A benefit which involved a cooking class with wine pairings from Seattle chef Karen Binkhorst. Thriftway and QFC made donations toward the food costs and Dish it Up Magnolia donated their cooking class kitchen space!
